Description of Photodon Protective Film Types

MXH-R - High Definition Retina Optimized Film

Slight Matte Finish; reduces glare by about 10%. Introduces minimal amount of visual noise/pixeling. Can be used with standard and retina-optimized monitors. Maintains the best image quality of the anti-glare films.

MXH - HD Anti-Glare Film

Light Matte Finish; reduces glare by about 25%. Introduces minimal amount of visual noise/pixeling. Works well on glass-front monitors.

MXT - Anti-Glare Film

Medium Matte Finish; reduces glare by about 55%. This film has medium/good anti-glare properties. It does introduce some visual noise/pixeling. Not recommended for color critical applications or where maximum image clarity is desired.

MXG - Maxi Anti-Glare Film

Strong Matte Finish; reduces glare by about 85%. This film has very good anti-glare properties. Introduces minimal noise/pixeling. Maximum glare reduction at direct viewing; lose some contrast and sharpness. Not recommended for side viewing applications. Not recommended for color critical applications or where maximum image clarity is desired.

MXA - Crystal Clear Film

Glossy Finish. Does not reduce glare. High transparency, recommended for color critical applications and maximum screen clarity. Creates a very crisp, sharp image. Improves screen image with whiter whites in most applications. Anti-reflect technology twists the light 90 degrees as it passes through the film. This film is touch screen compatible. Highly scratch resistant.

MXA-O - Crystal Clear Oleophobic Film

Glossy Finish. Good screen clarity with no reduction in contrast. No noise. Enhanced with oleophobic/anti-fingerprint coating.

  Which Film Type Should I Choose?

  The film type you select among our anti-glare/clear protective films is really a personal preference. When selecting a protective film consider which functions are most important to you. Functions that vary with film type include the level of anti-glare/surface reflection, anti-fingerprint properties and image quality.

  Scratch Resistant Films

  Most of these films have a very tough (3H) hard coat layer, making them highly scratch resistant under normal use.

  Anti-Glare Films

  We currently offer several films with varying amounts of antiglare properties. Anti-glare films do introduce a certain amount of pixeling (flash point) however the newer technology films are reducing the pixeling down to the nano scale making it much more desirable.   Silicone Adhesion Layer

  All the film types have the same adhesion / attachment method; a protective backing layer is removed, exposing the silicone resin adhesion layer. This adhesion layer covers the entire back surface of the film. This silicone type adhesion is not permanent and the film is easily removable, when needed, without fear of any residue or damage to the screen surface.

  1/8 inch Rounded Corners

  1/8 inch rounded corners are standard except on certain models where a larger corner is required. Square corners are an option that can be requested at checkout on custom cut orders. See "Universal & Custom Sizes" category on the web site.

  Custom Cut Films

  Custom cut films are available at no extra charge. If you do not find your model listed, we will be happy to custom cut a film for you. In exchange for your feedback of correct size information via email (size and model of device), we will give you a $10 coupon towards your next purchase (coupon may be shared with a friend).

  Glass Covered LCDs

  When anti-glare film is placed on glass covered monitors (such as many Apple products), the added distance from the LCD/LED causes additional sparkling. For maximum image clarity with these displays choose either the MXA or MXA-O film type. The best choice for anti-glare function with these displays is either the MXH or MXH-R film type (we suggest you try a sample first).

  MXG and MXT film types are not recommended for color critical applications or where maximum image clarity is desired.

  Touch Screens and Stylus

  Any of the Photodon films may be used on touchscreen displays. Most devices work very well with screen protective films. Please test the functionality with the TEST FILM enclosed with every order. Monitors using “IntelliTouch" and "Surface Acoustic Wave" (SAW) technology DO NOT seem to work with protective films over them. Films can also slightly reduce the response on some of the new capacitive multi-touch displays using finger touch, but work well with stylus input.
