Measuring Can Make The Difference In A Quality Fit

| By Jenny Sockol

Protecting your device screen is essential to maintaining its clarity and safety. A Photodon screen protector or privacy filter will shield your screen from glare, damage, and unwanted viewing from others. However, to ensure a perfect fit, you need to measure the screen accurately. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you measure your screen for a Photodon screen protector.

Step 1: Ensure Your Device is not Already on our Site

The very first thing you need to do is search for your device on our website. If you find your exact make and model, then all you need to do is click on the link to its SKU to place your order.

However, if you do not find your device, it is time to order a custom screen protector from this page.

Step 2: Measure the Width and Height of Your Device Screen

It is of utmost importance that you physically measure your screen. Do NOT use the dimensions found on the manufacturer's website since the width and height found there are unreliable. Unfortunately, they are usually for the entire device and not for the screen only.

Instead, use our instructions to measure the entire flush surface of your screen. Do not include any raised bezel or the edges of the screen. This picture helps demonstrate the surface to measure.

Because our screen protectors adhere directly to the screen, the bezel cannot be included. If there is a step up to a raised bezel, or if there is even a slight space between the screen and the edge of the device, then the screen protector will not adhere correctly. Air will enter those areas, causing large, unremovable bubbles.

Measuring a Curved Screen

Measure the Width

If you are using a roll of tape, push the tape down along the left side of the screen so you can roll it across to the right side of the screen, with a little bit overhanging each edge. After using the edge of a card or your fingernail to push the tape into the gap at the edges of the screen, carefully mark those two places on the tape with a pen or pencil.

Pull off the tape with care, and then adhere it to a flat surface such as a table. Use a measuring tape to determine the width of the screen, using the mark from the left side of the screen to the mark on the right side of the screen.

If you do not have a roll of tape, place the very edge of your measuring tape at the left side of your device screen against the bezel, but not including it. Holding the edge of the measuring tape, pull it across the screen all the way to the right edge of the screen. Again, do not include the bezel on the righthand side of the screen in your measurement. If there is a curve to your screen, then be sure to follow that curve all the way across the surface.

Measure the Height

Use the same technique as decribed above for the width. This time, however, measure from the top to the bottom of the device screen. Do not include any raised bezel or any gap between the screen and the edge of the device for the measurement.

Enter the Width and Height Measurements on the Custom Cut Page

Please note that we recommend measuring in millimeters as that provides a more accurate result.

If you measured in inches, then click on the blue "Inches to Millimeters Converter" box on the custom cut page. Enter the width and height in the corresponding boxes and click on the blue "Convert" button. Your dimensions are now converted.

If you measured in millimeters, then enter your dimensions in the corresponding "Width (mm):" and "Height (mm):" boxes on the custom cut page.

Step 3: Determine the Corner Radius of Your Device Screen

The only other measurement you need to provide is the corner radius of your screen. This is important so that the screen protector fits into the corners correctly. We can cut any radius of corner, from 0mm (a perfect square) to a full circle-shaped screen protector.

Square Corners

If you choose the square corner option from the custom cut page, they will then have a 1mm radius.

Standard Corners

The 3mm / 2mm corner option is cut like credit card corners. We consider this to be standard corners.

"Other" Corners

If you need anything different than the square or standard corners, then click on the "Other" option and type in the radius that you require. In order to help determine the radius, we have a couple of different methods to help you.

  • Common household items have specific radius, and if one of them fits in your device's corner, then you can determine the radius.
    • Credit cards = 3mm
    • Pencil top = 4mm
    • Dime = 9mm
    • Penny = 10mm
    • Nickel = 11mm
    • Quarter = 12mm
  • If you need a different radius measurement, our Photodon Corner Radius can be printed to scale and cut out to verify the corner radius.

Conclusion

Ensuring a perfect fit is important so your screen protector fits your device's screen properly. All you need to do is measure the screen accurately and use our custom cut page for ordering.
