If you're reading this blog post, chances are you already know what an optical comparator is.\u00a0 Until we heard from a customer at Modern Manufacturing & Engineering, WE didn't know.\u00a0 But we were soon schooled in the optical comparator universe.<\/p>\n

For those who DON'T know what an optical comparator is, here is a Wikipedia explanation<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n

An optical comparator <\/b>is a device that applies the principles of\u00a0optics\u00a0to the\u00a0inspection\u00a0of manufactured parts. In a comparator, the magnified silhouette of a part is projected upon the screen, and the dimensions and geometry of the part are measured against\u00a0prescribed limits. It is a useful item in a small parts\u00a0machine shop\u00a0or\u00a0production line\u00a0for the\u00a0quality control\u00a0inspection team. <\/em><\/p>\n

Modern Manufacturing\u2019s Challenge:<\/h3>\n
