When\u00a0<\/span>owner Don Basch listened to Michigan's Governor Gretchen Whitmer <\/span>address <\/span>citizens<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>on March 23, 20<\/span>20, he, along with everyone else in the state<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0heard the news that all non-essential businesses\u00a0<\/span>were ordered<\/span>\u00a0to close their doors\u00a0<\/span>until at least April 13th.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>That night, Don went home, got on the internet, and researched what he could do to help<\/span>\u00a0protect the medical\u00a0<\/span>and emergency responder\u00a0<\/span>professionals in his Traverse City community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI found a\u00a0<\/span>local group that\u00a0<\/span>shared\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>Google doc\u00a0<\/span>showing\u00a0<\/span>PPE items<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>that hospitals are needing\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0help keep doctors and nurses protected.\u00a0 One of the items was face shields<\/span>\u00a0with a suggested design.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Don\u00a0<\/span>went\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>Photodon<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>shop and got to work making a shield using some materials\u00a0<\/span>he had\u00a0<\/span>in stock.\u00a0<\/span>After tinkering with the\u00a0<\/span>shield<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>pattern, he constructed the first shield.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>He\u00a0<\/span>also\u00a0<\/span>ordered so<\/span>m<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>additional<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>supplies needed to make the shields.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u00a0now have<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>supplies on hand to make about 1,500\u00a0<\/span>shields<\/span>,\u201d Don said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Photodon<\/span>\u00a0plans\u00a0<\/span>to provide<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>as many shields as they can and\u00a0<\/span>currently have face shields\u00a0<\/span>ready to deliver.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u00a0<\/span>just<\/span>\u00a0want to do what we can to help<\/span>\u00a0with what we are capable of<\/span>\u00a0doing<\/span>,\u201d Don said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
