His journey started with a simple need: reducing annoying glare on screens. As a photography enthusiast, Don faced the challenge of viewing his digital camera screen in bright light. Determined to find a solution, he crafted a hood that shielded the screen. In so doing, this hood allowed him to capture those perfect shots.

Other photographers noticed Don’s innovative hoods and expressed interest in them. Because he was encouraged by their enthusiasm, Don decided to sell these hoods online. With his engineering background and need to improve situations, Don consequently created Photodon. Photodon had found its niche with its monitor hoods. Don and his wife Jeanette accordingly worked tirelessly from their home, filling orders and refining their products.

As Photodon expanded, it moved into a larger industrial facility to accommodate its increasing business needs. It started to source PET protective materials for screens beyond just cameras. Additionally, the newly purchased laser machine cut screen protectors and privacy filters precisely. Photodon became known for working with customers to create custom screen protection. Soon, government agencies, businesses, colleges, and healthcare facilities recognized the need for specialty products like privacy filters. This further solidified Photodon’s position in the market.

A Culture of Improvement

Photodon commits to continuous improvement to ensure its success. For example, the company embraces the Kaizen principle. This principle is about constantly seeking ways to enhance processes and efficiency for the company and its customers. Just one example of this happened during the pandemic. Photodon repurposed unused PET material to create face shields and donated them to local hospitals.

Retirement and Legacy

After decades of hard work and dedication, Don and Jeanette decided to pass the torch to the next generation. Their retirement marks the end of an era, but their legacy lives on. Their commitment to quality, innovation, fairness, and customer satisfaction has left an indelible mark on Photodon.

The Next Chapter

As Don and Jeanette step back, a new chapter begins. The Photodon team, inspired by their example, continues to uphold the company’s values. Correspondingly, their expertise and passion remain instilled in every screen protector, privacy filter, and monitor hood that leaves the facility.

As a result, the team remains committed to sustainable practices inspired by Don and Jeanette. The practices include reducing waste, recycling materials, composting, and repairing versus replacing equipment. Additionally, the screen protectors themselves are sustainable. Their creation and use allows equipment to last longer and not end up in landfills.

A Grateful Community

Don and Jeanette’s contributions extend beyond business.
