When relative humidity falls below 30%, static electricity can be problematic. Relative humidity is the percentage of moisture held in the air versus the most that could be held at that temperature. Because cold air holds less water vapor, those living in colder climates notice a dramatic rise in the occurrence of static electricity during the winter months. Folks in Phoenix and Las Vegas experience it throughout the year due to the hot, dry conditions in these areas.
Remove Static Electricity with Heavy Duty Staticide®
If you want a simple, quick and cost-effective method to get rid of the static electricity in your environment, Staticide is the way to go. We use this in our Photodon shop area, and it truly makes a difference in reducing static electricity. The manufacturer, ACL, boasts that it is even effective when the relative humidity drops to 15% and below.
"Staticide remains the most effective and widely accepted anti-stat solution on the market today."
Staticide is cost effective
- one quart (32 oz.): approx. 500 sq. ft. of carpet; hundreds of sq. ft. of hard surface
- one gallon: approx. 2000 sq. ft.; will last from weeks to months
Staticide is versatile / used across many industries
It is safe to use on fabrics such as carpets and upholstery or hard surfaces such as floors or tabletops (not for use on screen surfaces).
Industries where static electricity can be an issue:
- Electronics Manufacturing
When dealing with electronics, total environmental static control is essential. Only a hundred volts can destabilize equipment, causing it to malfunction. Even a very small charge can attract dust particles. The result can be operational glitches and/or other damage. As quoted from the article, "Static Electricity Can Mean Shocking Damage" (Technology Alberta) by Ron Zezulka of Denclare:
“The electronics industry in North America recommends a minimum humidity level of 30% in any environment where electronic devices are handled.”
Staticide is eco-friendly, non-toxic, non-staining, and biodegradable. 'Nough said.
Staticide prevents dust attraction
Static electricity can be especially troublesome when you’re attempting to install a screen protector during the winter months. All Photodon films have a back protective liner that covers the silicone resin adhesive backing. When you remove this liner, static electricity can be generated and attract the smallest of dust particles from the air.
In Northern Climates, Keep Relative Humidity in Check
An indoor humidity level between 40-60% is an ideal range to control static electricity. However, if reducing static electricity is your goal and you live in a northern climate, take note: cranking up the humidifier is likely to cause some unwanted side effects.
Excess humidity promotes airborne viruses and increases window condensation, leading to mold growth and structural damage from rotting wood. So, keeping a proper balance is important.
